10 states with the fewest Medicare-certified ASCs

Vermont had fewer Medicare-certified ASCs than any other state as of June 2018, according to data from The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association.

ASCA reported the number of Medicare-certified ASCs in each state as of June 2018 using data provided by CMS.

1. Vermont: 1
2. Rhode Island: 10
3. West Virginia: 10
4. North Dakota: 12
5. Maine: 16
6. Alaska: 16
7. New Mexico: 17
8. Montana: 17
9. South Dakota: 17
10. Wyoming: 18
