10 benchmarks to know on orthopedics in ASCs

Here are 10 benchmarks to know on orthopedics in the ASC setting from a variety of sources in the industry.

The percentage of inpatient procedures decreased while the percentage of outpatient and ASC procedures increased, according to a Leerink Partners survey conducted in June. Leerink surveyed 47 hospital administrators on bundled payments to create the report. Here are statistics on the percent of procedures performed in outpatient or ASC settings, comparing the past 12 months with the increase expected in the next 12:

1. Hip
Past 12 months:
ASC: 7 percent
Outpatient: 17 percent

Next 12 months:
ASC: 7 percent
Outpatient: 19 percent

2. Knee
Past 12 months:
ASC: 12 percent
Outpatient: 25 percent

Next 12 months:
ASC: 13 percent
Outpatient: 26 percent

3. Spine
Past 12 months:
 ASC: 10 percent
Outpatient: 20 percent

Next 12 months:
ASC: 11 percent
Outpatient: 20 percent

Here are statistics on net revenue per case for orthopedics procedures at ASCs, based on data from VMG Health's Multi-Specialty ASC Intellimarker Study 2017.
