Illinois hospital adds $39.6M outpatient addition — 5 insights

Geneva, Ill.-based Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital committed $39.6 million to renovate and expand its operating rooms and outpatient department, the Daily Herald reports.

What you should know:

1. The hospital built a two-story, 25,000-square-foot addition that houses nine ORs, 11 pre- and postoperative recovery bays, a waiting room, and updated staff areas.

2. The addition is the hospital's largest construction project since it opened in 1991.

3. Some of the new ORs also have robotic surgery capabilities.

4. The hospital expects to begin operating on patients Nov. 29.

5. Hospital administration said the addition will be upgraded at a later date to add one more operating room, two gastroenterology procedure rooms, a scope processing center, postanesthesia care bays, staff support areas and physician offices.
