New York City-based NYU Langone Health and University of Chicago Medicine have named gastroenterologists as directors. 

Lee Memorial Health approved the purchase of 23 acres in Cape Coral, Fla., to house an outpatient physician and surgical center, Fort Myers News-Press reported Sept. 24. 

Mission Viejo, Calif.-based Providence Mission Hospital acquired a da Vinci Xi surgical system at its ASC, the hospital said Sept. 23. 

Gastroenterology is expected to have a deficit of 1,630 physicians by 2025, according to a report by physician search and consulting firm Merritt Hawkins.

Leawood, Kan.-based ValueHealth is one of the largest ASC companies, with more than 3,000 affiliated physicians. 

In the new "shopping" era of healthcare, some ASC leaders feel surgical robots are a way to stand out.
