Amazon completed its $3.9 billion acquisition of primary care company One Medical. 

Thomas Frist Jr., MD, co-founder and shareholder of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, tops the list of billionaires in U.S. healthcare, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index as of Feb. 21. 

While the healthcare industry is consolidating, the ASC industry remains mostly fragmented — with some ASC chains focusing on smaller ASCs rather than accumulating substantial market share.  

Dallas-based United Surgical Partners International, Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare and Deerfield, Ill.-based SCA Health are three of the largest ASC operators in the country.
