Hospitals and health systems are increasingly looking to ASCs for growth — forming partnerships and joint ventures for ASC development as procedures continue to migrate to outpatient settings. 

Three bills in the Mississippi legislature that would allow advanced practice registered nurses to practice without physician supervision have been killed, according to a May 16 report from the American Medical Association. 

Gastroenterology groups are continuing to get bigger — at least 108 gastroenterology practices consolidated between 2019 and 2023 and more than 12 gastroenterology companies expanded their footprint in 2023.

Lauren Pinter-Brown, MD, a former oncologist at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center was awarded $14 million in a gender discrimination lawsuit verdict, the Daily Bruin reported May 12. 

Texas has lost more than 20 hospitals since 2005, according to the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, which could mean a rise in volume for ASCs in the region.
