Healthgrades has ranked the top 100 hospitals for orthopedic surgery in 2023, including three hospitals in Maryland.

Joplin, Mo.-based pain management physician Heather Stelling, MD, was convicted for healthcare fraud and must pay $146,026 to Medicare and Medicaid, the Joplin Globe reported Sept. 15. 

Morgantown, W.V.-based physician David Anderson, MD, has been charged with filing a false tax return. 

Moberly, Mo.-based physician Justin Lamonda, MD, was sentenced to 22 months of prison and must pay $537,332 for falsely using his father's name to bill Medicare and Medicaid for services. 

Twenty-three percent of residents expect to become a practice owner or partner, according to Medscape's 2023 "Resident and Salary Debt Report."
