VisionCare unveils system to provide ophthalmologists support during complex lens exchange procedures: 4 quick notes

Saratoga, Calif.-based VisionCare is launching Lens Exchange System, which will help support complex lens exchange procedures.

Here are four quick notes:

1. The FDA-approved system is a Class 1 medical device.

2. Through the system, providers can improve intraoperative handling and intraocular devices maneuvering during complex IOL to IOL exchange procedures.

3.  The Lens Exchange System features a flexible cord and connector system to connect IOL haptics.

4. VisionCare is showcasing the system at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting 2016 in Chicago from Oct. 15 to Oct. 18.

"Depending on how the lens is situated, an IOL exchange can be rather complex, especially in cases with absent or compromised capsular support," said Derek Kunimoto, MD, of Retinal Consultants of Arizona. "The LES is an example of how a simple idea can have a big impact. It levels the playing field for all scleral fixated lens cases, and makes the surgery simpler and more predictable. The system is extremely intuitive, and allows reproducible lens centering and stabilization."
