VCU grad students training at Stony Point Surgery Center: 3 key notes

Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University signed an agreement with Medarva Healthcare allowing graduate medical students to receive part of their residency training at Richmond-based Stony Point Surgery Center, VirginiaBusiness.com reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Residents will rotate through the center with VCU surgeon supervision. Program organizers said the training will allow them hands-on experience different from what they'd find in a hospital.

2. Residents specializing in obstetrics, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedics, general surgery and pediatric nephrology will use the center.

3. The agreement makes Stony Point one of only a few surgery centers to have a partnership with a major medical school.
