UConn Health's agreement with Vizient results in decreased cost of care: 4 notes

Farmington, Conn.-based University of Connecticut Health's expanded agreement with Bettendorf, Iowa-based Vizient has resulted in considerable savings. Vizient offers data-driven solutions intended to enhance patient outcomes and lower costs.

Here are four notes:

1. After six months of the agreement, UConn Health reached more than 100 percent of the 18-month committed savings target.

2. In July 2015, UConn Health began using supply chain and cost analytics software solutions, adding to its commodity group purchasing relationship with MedAssets. Vizient acquired part of MedAssets in February 2016.

3. Vizient has helped UConn Health with its supply chain operations and operational efficiencies. These efforts have resulted in lower supply costs and better controls.

4. "As an academic medical center, UConn Health faces continued pressures to reduce costs and we are excited to have achieved dramatic savings in such a short time," said Anne Diamond, chief executive officer, John Dempsey Hospital, UConn Health.
