Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare will pay the federal government, Georgia and South Carolina $514 million to settle kickback allegations, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Here are six things you need to know:

1. The allegations involve Tenet hospitals paying kickbacks for obstetric referrals in Georgia and South Carolina.

2. The settlement, still to be approved by a court, will see two Tenet subsidiaries pleading guilty "to one count of conspiracy to violate federal kickback laws," according to The Wall Street Journal.

3. A criminal investigation and civil litigation surrounded four Tenet hospitals allegedly paying "kickbacks for referrals of low-income patients from an operator of prenatal clinics," according to The Wall Street Journal.

4. Allegedly, the prenatal clinics referred undocumented Hispanic women to Tenet hospitals. The hospitals utilized contracts for translation to pay the clinics illegal kickbacks.

5. Tenet plans to pay the $514 million with cash and its revolving credit facility.

6. Tenet will also receive additional scrutiny over the next three years, to ensure it is following anti-kickback laws.
