Here are five things to know:
1. The new system includes 600 solar panels and cost around $480,000. However, federal land state tax incentives reduced the total cost to $300,000.
2. The system is expected to pay for itself over 15 years in cumulative returns.
3. Each of the 600 solar panels is expected to last 35 years without much power production degradation.
4. The surgical facility was originally established in 1946 by three physicians and underwent a reconstruction in 2006, designed for energy conservation. The facility also includes energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs and the HVAC brings fresh air in from outside.
5. When deciding on the solar panels, the surgical center took bids from various vendors and eventually decided on Sandhills Energy, which was located down the road from the ASC.
