PA salary on the rise — 5 points

The 2015 American Academy of Physician Assistants Salary Survey found physician assistants' assistant salary is increasing.

Here are five points:

1. In 2014, the median base salary for a PA increased to $93,800 a year, representing a $3,800 rise from 2012.

2. In 2015, 54 percent of PAs received monetary bonuses. Over 75 percent of PAs received some other type of additional compensation including research stipends, profit sharing, student loan repayment, tuition reimbursement, paid relocation or signing bonuses.

3. PAs reported the highest median compensation at critical hospitals, industrial facilities and hospital emergency departments. At critical access hospitals, PAs reported a median salary of $115,000. PAs reported a median salary of $115,000 at industrial facilities and $101,920 at hospital emergency departments.

4. In the cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery specialties, PAs reported the highest median base salary of $117,000 followed by interventional radiology ($105,500), emergency medicine ($102,960) and pediatric surgery ($102,500).

5. PAs who had less than one year of experience had an average base salary of $85,000. This figure increased to $89,000 for PAs with two to four years of experience and $96,000 for PAs with five to nine years of experience.
