Orthopedic surgeons make more than physicians in any other specialty, according to Medscape's "Physician Compensation Report 2019."

Medscape surveyed 19,328 respondents across 30-plus specialties.

Average compensation for each specialty:

1. Orthopedics: $482,000
2. Plastic surgery: $471,000
3. Otolaryngology: $461,000
4. Cardiology: $430,000
5. Dermatology: $419,000
6. Radiology: $419,000
7. Gastroenterology: $417,000
8. Urology: $408,000
9. Anesthesiology: $392,000
10. Ophthalmology: $366,000
11. General surgery: $362,000
12. Oncology: $359,000
13. Emergency medicine: $353,000
14. Critical care: $349,000
15. Pulmonary medicine: $331,000
16. Pathology: $308,000
17. Physical medicine and rehabilitation: $306,000
18. Nephrology: $305,000
19. OB-GYN: $303,000
20. Allergy and immunology: $275,000
21. Neurology: $267,000
22. Psychiatry: $260,000
23. Rheumatology: $259,000
24. Internal medicine: $243,000
25. Infectious diseases: $239,000
