Midsize practices see higher malpractice premium increases — 10 insights

Practices with 11 to 25 physicians were more likely to see bigger medical malpractice insurance premium increases in 2018 than larger or smaller practices, according to Medical Economics' "90th Annual Physician Report."

Medical Economics surveyed 1,300 physicians to generate the report.

Ten insights on malpractice premiums:

Change in malpractice premiums from 2017 to 2018

1. Increased: 12 percent
2. Stayed the same: 47 percent
3. Decreased: 6 percent
4. Don't know: 33 percent
5. No answer: 2 percent

Change in malpractice premiums compared with five years ago

6. Increased: 23 percent
7. Stayed the same: 28 percent
8. Decreased: 12 percent
9. Don't know: 35 percent
10. No answer: 3 percent
