Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, R, is scheduled to undergo routine outpatient surgery March 2, The Gazette reports.
The 84 year old said the procedure is in the "category of a hernia fix" and is similar to a surgery his son underwent last year.
Mr. Grassley plans to be back at the Senate for a vote March 5. He hasn't missed a vote for more than two decades.
