Increasing need for home health aides — 4 key notes

With the aging population, the demand for home health aides is spiking. The health aides' field is projected to be the fastest growing job in the next seven years, according to TH Online.

Here are four key notes:

1. More people are seeking care from outpatient clinics rather than hospitals or nursing homes due to the stark difference in costs.

2. Approximately 3.1 million caregivers are expected to be employed by 2022.

3. Home aides are generally hired either by government-funded agencies or by directly employed the client.

4. The supply does not meet the demand with turnover being over 40 percent a year. Home aids are paid low wages for very labor-intensive work. Additionally, many applicants do not meet the qualifications.
