Hillary Clinton's plan to strengthen the ACA — 5 notes

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton released details last month for her health reform plan, which not only defends the Affordable Care Act, but strengths the law, according to Forbes.

Here are five notes:

1. Ms. Clinton's reform plan expands on her healthcare efforts from the early 1900s and entails driving down deductibles and out-of-pocket costs.

2. The reform plan would cap out-of-pocket spending at $250 a month on prescription drugs for individuals with chronic diseases.

3. Additionally, Ms. Clinton plans to mandate health plans to classify any emergency visit as in-network. Individual whose medical bills surpass 5 percent of their income would be eligible for tax credits which would amount to nearly $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families.

4. While some of the proposed plans may save some individuals money, the plans will increase premiums for everyone else.

5. She plans to enforce HMOs, which would compensate providers for an entire course of care rather than each component of care. Some argue this type of care would result in lower quality care in an effort to drive down costs and raise profits.
