Founder & CEO Dr. Matthew Schocket: ASCs are healthcare's "sweet spot"

The Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society featured Matthew Schocket, MD, founder and CEO of the Center for Specialty Surgery of Austin (Texas) and Austin-based Audentes Health, as its member of the day.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Schocket established Austin-based Capitol Pain Institute in 2007. The practice opened the Center for Specialty Surgery of Austin in 2015, marking Dr. Schocket's foray into the ASC space. "His goal was to provide the highest quality of care to his patients in an accredited surgery center where he could control all aspects of the patient experience," TASCS said.

2. An affiliate of New State Capital Partners later invested an undisclosed amount to help CPI expand its practice and surgery center. "With a national shift away from hospitals to ASCs, we recognize the potential to increase CPI's reach to patients who need safe and effective pain management options," NSCP Founder David Blechman said about the investment.

3. ASCs are a "sweet spot" for quality, low-cost healthcare, Dr. Schocket told TASCs. Over the next three to five years, ASCs should promote strength and sustainable growth while investing in technology, he said.
