Former Mountain Laurel Surgery Center nursing director sentenced to 2 months jail time for fentanyl theft

A Wayne County judge sentenced Karen Feldner to two months in jail and three months on house arrest for fentanyl theft, according to PA Homepage.

Here are four things to know:

1. Ms. Feldner received the sentence for stealing almost 2,000 fentanyl vials from Honesdale, Pa.-based Mountain Laurel Surgery Center, where she formerly worked as the nursing director.

2. In the fall of 2016, the ASC found a substantial number of vials absent from its inventory, causing ASC personnel to notify the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Investigators say Ms. Feldner would request the fentanyl vials be dropped off at her basement or she would pick them up from the pharmacy, a deviation from how the ASC typically had the drug delivered.

3. Mountain Laurel Surgery Center fired Ms. Feldner in 2016.

4. Following the jail time and subsequent house arrest, Ms. Feldner will spend six years on a probationary program and will complete community service.
