Do EHRs bolster, hinder efficiency? Physicians weigh in

A SelectHub analysis found physicians believe EHRs improve efficiency overall.

Here are seven survey findings:

1. Eighty-six percent said EHRs make it easier to provide services and care to patients; 8 percent said EHRs have no effect and 6 percent say they make this more difficult.

2. When asked about sharing patient data with other providers and organizations:
•    85 percent said EHRs make it easier
•    6 percent said they have no effect
•    9 percent said EHRs make this task more challenging

3. Only seven percent said EHRs make an average workday more challenging; 81 percent said EHRs make the average workday easier.

4. EHRs make it easier to find potential issues or errors in patient medical records, according to 80 percent of physician respondents.

5. Seventy-seven said EHRs help manage patient billing and 21 percent said they have no effect. Only 2 percent said EHRs make this more trying.

6. When conversing with patients' insurers, 72 percent said EHR helps in this task while 7 percent said they make it more difficult.

7. EHRs help directly communicate with patients, according to 63 percent of respondents.
