Here’s what you should know:
1. A patient Dr. Feldman was treating in his ASC died while receiving a lumbar epidural steroid injection in 2013. Dr. Feldman was charged with seven alleged Louisiana Medical Practice Act violations.
2. The Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners filed disciplinary sanctions, suspended Dr. Feldman’s license and fined him $5,000. Dr. Feldman appealed the revocation in circuit court.
3. During surveys of Dr. Feldman’s surgery center in 2010, 2011 and 2013, HHS found several deficiencies related to the absence of a registered nurse during surgical procedures.
4. In the 2013 case involving a fatality, Dr. Feldman allegedly performed the procedure without a nurse present. When the patient coded, Dr. Feldman was reportedly unable to reestablish an IV or resuscitate the patient. Dr. Feldman allegedly had a nurse sign a document falsely stating she was present during the procedure.
5. The circuit court upheld the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiner’s decision on the strength of evidence brought against Dr. Feldman.
