CMS: Companies made $8.2B in payments to physicians, teaching hospitals in 2016

CMS recently released its Open Payments data for 2016, which detailed the payment amounts companies made to physicians and teaching hospitals in 2016.

Here are five statistics to note:

1. Companies made $8.18 billion in payments to physicians and teaching hospitals.

2. Last year, 1,481 companies made payments.

3. Approximately 631,000 physicians had payment records.

4. Comparatively, 1,146 teaching hospitals had payment records.

5. Open Payments published 11.96 million records.
