ASC taxation, smoke exposure & more: 5 legislative changes to know

Here are five legislative updates that could affect your surgery center:

Pennsylvania's 2019-20 budget proposal includes a tax on ASCs, according to the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

The Ohio legislature passed a law requiring ASCs to establish ways to identify patients who could benefit from palliative care and inform them about those services.

Colorado passed legislation mandating that ASCs and hospitals adopt policies to minimize surgical smoke exposure.

The CT Colonography Screening for Colorectal Cancer Act, a bipartisan bill introduced in Congress, could provide Medicare coverage for virtual colonoscopy.

A Florida House subcommittee approved a bill that would allow advanced practice registered nurses to practice without physician supervision.
