As number of ASCs in Virginia doubles, Monticello Community Surgery Center recognized

Charlottesville, Va.-based Monticello Community Surgery Center was profiled by The Daily Progress as an organization working to lower the cost of healthcare.

Here's what you should know:

1. Since 1999, the number of ASCs in Virginia has more than doubled.

2. Monticello was established as a joint venture in 2003, and it became independent in 2012. The center is physician owned and provides the prices of common procedures on its website.

3. Center Administrator Andy Poole said to The Daily Progress, "I've worked in healthcare for 19 years, and this is the first time in my life, I've known how much everything costs."

4. Mr. Poole said more people are reaching out to the center in response to the high premiums and uncertainty surrounding the ACA.

5. Mr. Poole said Monticello is also working with area companies that are dropping their health insurance offerings to create partnerships. For example, Monticello entered into a partnership with an area beverage conglomerate to cover the company's surgical needs.

6. Mr. Poole believes as healthcare continues to move towards value-based care, Monticello will be at the forefront of the movement.
