72-hour stays could still come to Florida: 3 things to know

Legislation that would have allowed 72 hour stays at Florida ASCs died in the state senate, but there remains a chance the measure could be revived, according to a Tampa Bay Times report.

Here are three things to know.

1. The Commission on Healthcare and Hospital Funding, a nine-member panel, is focused on recommending ways to lower healthcare costs in Florida. The commission may make recommendations regarding ASCs, according to the report.

2. The 72-hour stay legislation proposed and struck down earlier this year was passed in the state House, but met opposition from hospitals. The bill died in the Senate.

3. State Rep. Jason Brodeur (28th District), chairman of the House Health and Human Services Committee, is planning to propose the 72-hour stay measure again, according to the report.
