Specialists' One-Day Surgery Center seeks approval for 2nd ASC
Syracuse, N.Y.-based Specialists' One-Day Surgery is seeking the New York Public Health and Health Planning Council's approval to construct a new ASC and to modify their existing ASC to meet increased demands. The new center would be located in Syracuse and would cost $15.47 million. It would feature eight operating rooms, 12 preoperative stations and 27 postoperative stations.

Nashville's Mayor proposes turning the city's only safety net hospital into an ASC
The Mayor of Nashville, Tenn., submitted a proposal to close inpatient services for Nashville (Tenn.) General Hospital, the only safety net hospital in the city, and reopen the facility as an ASC. There isn't a timeline for the transition, but the hospital has struggled to pay the bills in recent years.

Humana's value-based care agreements yield 13% increase in colon cancer screenings
Touting 900-plus relationships with value-based provider organizations and 51,500 physicians in value-based agreements, Humana released an internal study showing the results of its value-based agreements. The company's value-based agreements led to a 13 percent increase in colorectal cancer screenings and an 8 percent increase in breast cancer screenings.

WNY Medical Management seeks approval for ASC
Buffalo, N.Y.-based WNY Medical Management's request to the New York Public Health and Health Planning Council to construct a multispecialty ASC in Williamsville, N.Y., is being met with objections from two hospital systems. Kaleida Health and Erie County Medical Center, both located in Buffalo, submitted letters to the council in opposition of the center.

WellSpan breaks ground on 80k-sq-ft health center with outpatient surgical suite
York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health initiated construction on its 80,000-square-foot health center in Penn Township, Pa. The center will have an outpatient surgical suite, a laboratory and imaging services.

Nurse anesthesia No. 1 in master's degree earnings
Moneyish compiled a list of the best- and worst-paying graduate degrees and nurse anesthesia took the top spot. Nurse anesthesia ranks as the highest-paying degree with an average annual salary of $165,000.

Tri-State Specialists to build $37M, 50k-sq-ft surgery center
Tri-State Specialists will break ground on its $37 million Riverview Surgical Center in late November. The 50,000-square-foot structure will offer patients orthopedic, gastrointestinal, plastic surgery, OB-GYN and ENT services.
