Colorado ophthalmology group buys, renames ASC to Insight Surgery Center
Parker, Colo.-based InSight Vision Group purchased Lone Tree, Colo.-based Renewal Surgery Center. As per the deal's terms, the ophthalmology group is renaming the ASC to Insight Surgery Center.

Regent Surgical Health promotes Bob Ryan to COO
Regent Surgical Health named Bob Ryan COO. Mr. Ryan joined Regent in 2016 as vice president of operations for the northeast. He arrived with 25 years-plus of experience working with physician partnerships in multisite healthcare facilities and managing joint venture ASC partnerships.

Hospital surgery center scrutinized for increased case load — board considers CON review
The Green Mountain Care Board is debating whether Morristown, Vt.-based Copley Hospital is in violation of its certificate of need. The board issued a CON in February 2016 for the hospital to replace its surgery center and modify its outpatient surgery center. However, the board is debating whether the hospital is violating its CON after the center began taking in more revenue than what was anticipated. For more on this, click here.

Tennessee suspect pleads guilty to scam resulting in $1.3M losses for Mountain Empire Surgery Center
Charles Turner pled guilty to a conspiracy charge related to his involvement in a scam that allegedly cost Johnson City, Tenn.-based Mountain Empire Surgery Center $1.3 million. Mr. Turner allegedly worked with Donald Kevin Collins on a scam in which the pair created a fake medical supply company, Turner Distributors. Prosecutors say the men fooled the surgery center into paying them $1.3 million-plus for equipment the men never delivered to the ASC in 2009.

Back Pain Centers of America adds Allegion Spine Institute to network
Back Pain Centers of America welcomed Las Vegas-based Allegion Spine Institute to its network. Spine surgeon Jaswinder Grover, MD, founded Allegion Spine Institute, formerly named Nevada Spine Clinic. Providers offer minimally invasive surgery, advanced spine surgery, pain management, cell therapy and regenerative medicine, radiology and physical therapy.

Medicare saved $8.8M by shifting colonoscopies to Tennessee ASCs
Medicare accrued a substantial amount of savings by moving colonoscopies to Tennessee ASCs, according to Ambulatory Surgery Center Association 2014 data. In 2014, Medicare saved $8.8 million by patients undergoing colonoscopies at Tennessee ASCs.

OhioHealth is building small hospital with ASC as outpatient demand spikes in state
OhioHealth is building a small hospital in Grove City, equipped with an ASC, medical office building and an emergency department. The health system aims to open the facility in 2018. Ohio Hospital Association Spokesperson John Palmer said Ohio hospitals had 31 million-plus outpatients in 2015, up from 30 million the year prior.
