CMS to terminate Medicare benefits of Lags Surgery Center Oxnard
CMS will terminate its Medicare provider agreement with Lags Surgery Center Oxnard (Calif.) at 12:01 a.m., Feb. 15. CMS found the Oxnard-based surgery center was "not in compliance with regulatory requirements for participation as an Ambulatory Surgery Center in the Medicare Program."

New York hospital weighing applying for grant to modernize ASC, other facilities
Lowville, N.Y.-based Lewis County General Hospital will hold a community engagement meeting to seek input on a grant application it'll use to modernize its ASC. Hospital administration plans to apply for a statewide grant to build a new health and wellness center, modernize its ASC and intensive care unit and relocate its Adult Day Health Care Center.

Medical Facilities Corp. completes acquisition of 7 ASCs through joint venture
Medical Facilities Corp. completed its acquisition of seven ASCs for $46.5 million through its joint venture with Leawood, Kan.-based NueHealth. The joint venture is 94.25 percent owned by MFC, with the purchase funded primarily by cash and by drawing on MFC's credit facility.

In CON tussle, Georgia county commission opposes Erlanger's claims, for now
Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System and Chattanooga-based CHI Memorial Hospital are in the midst of a regulatory battle to receive approval to build their own surgery centers on opposite sides of a street in Ringgold, Ga., and for now the Catoosa County Commission is siding with CHI.

Envision Physician Services taps Dr. Srinivas Bollimpalli as VP of pain management
Srinivas Bollimpalli, MD, will be Envision Physician Services' vice president of pain management. Dr. Bollimpalli most recently served at Valley Anesthesiology and Pain Consultants in Phoenix, where he practiced for 18 years.

U of Chicago Medicine snags Washington University in St. Louis physician for leadership role
University of Chicago Medicine tapped Peter Nagele, MD, to lead its anesthesia and critical care department, effective March 1. Dr. Nagele was most recently with Washington University in St. Louis, where he was chief of trauma anesthesiology and an associate professor of anesthesiology and genetics.

Dr. Eric Neff completes 1st TKR at Surgery Center of Chesapeake
Eric Neff, MD, of Virginia Beach, Va.-based Atlantic Orthopedic Specialists, completed the first total knee replacement procedure at Surgery Center of Chesapeake (Va.). The procedure was the first TKR at a freestanding ASC in Virginia's South Hampton Roads region.
