Florida Society of Anesthesiologists files qui tam complaint against ASCs, physicians & anesthesia companies
The society filed a qui tam complaint against more than 50 physicians, anesthesiology companies and ambulatory surgical centers. In their complaint, Florida Society of Anesthesiologists alleges the defendants defrauded Medicare and Medicaid, violating the False Claims Act and the Florida False Claims Act.

New York approves John R. Oishei Children's Hospital's $18.1M ASC
The state of New York gave John R. Oishei Children's Hospital in Buffalo approval to construct an ASC. Once the ASC is about to open, it will need final approval following a site inspection. On March 23, the state Department of Health gave the ASC contingent approval.

Danbury Orthopedics boosts its outpatient offerings
To meet patient demand, Danbury (Conn.) Orthopedics is expanding its outpatient services. Surgeons at the center completed their first outpatient total knee, hip and shoulder replacements.

Glenview Capital Management purchases $1B stake in HCA
During the fourth quarter, Glenview Capital Management bought 8,787,271 more shares in Hospital Corporation of America. The firm holds a $1.1 billion stake in HCA.

EMU Health acquires Queens Surgical Center
EMU Health acquired Glendale, N.Y.-based Queens Surgical Center. EMU Health has developed one other ASC in addition to QSC.

Medicare pays  nurse practitioners less than primary care physicians for claims
For outpatient evaluation and management, Medicare paid PCPs an average of $705, quite higher than the $498 they paid NPs.

The Endoscopy Center in SD gets building permit
Rapid City, S.D., issued a nearly $2.5 million building permit for The Endoscopy Center. The center includes colonoscopy and esophagogastroduodenoscopy.
