6 ways ASCs can collect accurate case costing data

Six tips for collecting accurate data:

1. Provide training to ensure staff are entering correct data and keeping track of acute details.

2. Supply pricing can fluctuate, meaning engaging with ASC materials personnel can keep supply prices up-to-date in case-costing software.

3. Track preference items used in procedures to avoid waste and reduce errors when recording what was used in surgery.

4. Include supplies used outside the operating room in case costing.

5. Include rental services or fees for tray drop-offs, and educate staff about which items carry a fee.

6. Don't include reprocessed items as an expense, but be sure to include implant costs.
