6 things healthcare executives think about the future of technology

SAP and Oxford Economics surveyed approximately 400 healthcare executives to collect their thoughts on how healthcare is adapting to the digital economy.

Here are six insights:

1. Digital transformation is the global trend that'll have the greatest impact on a healthcare organization.

2. Approximately 70 percent of respondents said technologies are essential to growth, competitive advantage and the customer experience.

3. Around 23 percent of healthcare organizations are still planning their digital investments, 54 percent are piloting some sort of digital investment, 32 percent are complete in some areas and 2 percent are complete in all areas.

4. Forty-eight percent of executives said a lack of mature technology is the biggest obstacle to full digital maturity.

5. Approximately 76 percent of executives believe big data and analytics will have a higher adoption rate in healthcare, 65 percent said cloud computing, 46 percent said the Internet of Things and 28 percent said artificial intelligence.

6. Sixty-one percent of executives said it's of critical importance that healthcare invests in technology now.
