5 innovative AI technologies to use in your practice

New advances in AI technology have the potential to help practices improve patient outcomes, save on healthcare costs and more, according to a report from Forbes.

Here are five AI technologies changing healthcare:

1. Patient safety and workflow. Applications such as Health Catalyst’s Patient Safety Monitor Suite: Surveillance Module and Clearwater’s CyberIntelligence dashboards assess patient risk and monitor safety threats, helping practices improve patient outcomes and prevent data breaches. AI can also make practices more efficient through automating test orders, medication prescriptions and more, which has the potential to save the healthcare industry $18 billion, Forbes said.

2. Robotic surgery. Advances in minimally invasive, robotic surgery allow patients to have faster recovery times and minimal scarring.

3. Virtual nursing assistants. According to Forbes, virtual nursing assistants like CareAngel can save the healthcare industry $20 billion annually. Because they are available around the clock, virtual nursing assistants can quickly answer patient questions and monitor their condition 24/7.

4. Clinical diagnosis. While Forbes pointed out use of AI to diagnose patients is used less often, advances in technology may make AI-assisted diagnoses more common. For example, Corti SA, a Danish AI software company, developed software that helps emergency responders detect cardiac arrests in patients.

5. Image analysis. An algorithm developed by researchers from the Cambridge, Mass.-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology analyzes scans 1,000 times faster, saving time compared to traditional methods.
