1. Financing – Having the essential funds to cover expenses such as medical equipment, licenses, furniture, staff salaries and construction is key to getting a new ASC off the ground.
2. The team – Hiring a team of engineers, marketers, attorneys as well as a management firm is an important step to successfully opening an ASC.
3. The vision – The types of procedures and the volume the center will handle should be factored into the planning process. If the organization has plans to expand, the location of the ASC and the amount of space the building has should be taken into consideration.
4. The pitfalls – When opening a new surgery center, it’s imperative to not make rash decisions to rush the project toward completion. Neglecting project management, underestimating paperwork and putting off staff recruitment are pitfalls to avoid.
