In a July 26 address at The Heritage Foundation, HHS Secretary Alex Azar said the agency will be making several updates to HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
Here are three details to know:
1. In the next few months, the agency will propose changes to remove value-based care barriers and further efforts to combat the opioid crisis.
2. Mr. Azar said data sharing rules will also be evaluated to remove barriers preventing health technology expansion.
3. Mr. Azar said the updates would prevent the regulations from impeding "the ability of doctors, hospitals and payers to coordinate in delivering better care at a lower cost."
