1. Dr. Dave Owens Hailed for Involvement in Roseburg SurgiCenter Upon Retirement. Dave Owens, MD, wa  hailed for his involvement in Roseburg (Ore.) SurgiCenter after his recent retirement from the Roseburg medical community. Dr. Owens was instrumental in creating Roseburg's first outpatient surgery center 20 years ago. The surgery center, then called Roseburg SurgiCenter, was originally located on Harvard Avenue and has since moved closer to Mercy Medical Center.

2. Former California Surgery Center Owner Dr. Sam Aanestad Considers Congress Run.
Sam Aanestad, MD, an oral surgeon and former surgery center owner, said he expects to announce early next week his decision about running for Congress. Dr. Aanestad sold his practice and the surgery center he owned in December. He said he wants to see "some real competition" for the congressional seat in the June primary. He spent 12 years in the Legislature as a former state Senator.

3. Dr. David Kloth Performs Free Disk Surgery on Patient at Danbury Surgical Center.
David Kloth, MD, performed two free operations on a patient's damaged disks at Danbury (Conn.) Surgical Center after the patient suffered a car accident leaving him in constant pain. Dr. Kloth, founder and medical director of Connecticut Pain Care in Danbury, said the patient deserved this chance after exhausting other options. The surgery to treat disk pain costs about $100,000.

4. Ohio's TriHealth Appoints Dr. Stuart Donovan to Oversee Butler County Surgery Center. TriHealth has appointed Stuart Donavan, MD, as medical staff president of the Bethesda (Ohio) Medical/Dental Staff, a role that includes supervision of the recently purchased Butler County Surgery Center. Dr. Donovan has been in practice since 1991, specializing in advanced laparoscopic surgery. In his new role, Dr. Donovan will oversee the medical and dental staffs at Bethesda North Hospital, Bethesda Medical Center Arrow Springs and Butler County Surgery Center.

5. Summit Health Names Pennsylvania Surgery Center After Dr. Roy Himelfarb.
Summit Health named its surgery center in Chambersburg, Pa., after retired Chambersburg Hospital physician Roy A. Himelfarb, MD. The Dr. Roy A. Himelfarb Surgery Center was formally dedicated Friday in a ceremony for the physician. Dr. Himelfarb, an oral surgeon, retired after more than three decades of services to his patients, Chambersburg Hospital and the surgery center.

6. DISC Sports & Spine Center Announces Founding Shareholders for New ASC. DISC Sports & Spine Center, based in Marina del Rey, Calif., recently opened a new location in Newport Beach that includes an ambulatory surgery center. The founding surgeons include:

7. Dr. Fritz Bech to Oversee Surgical Services at NJ's Kennedy Surgical Center
. Kennedy Health System, with facilities located throughout New Jersey, has named Dr. Fritz R. Bech as its new chief of surgery. In this role he will oversee surgical services at the Kennedy Surgical Center in Washington Township, N.J., and three Kennedy hospitals.

8. Dr. John Murrell Hosts Rep. John Barrow at GA's Midtown Surgical Center. U.S. Rep. John Barrow (D-GA) recently paid a visit to Midtown Surgical Center in Savannah, Ga., where the Congressman toured the facility with John Murrell, MD. During the tour, Rep. Barrow learned from Dr. Murrell and Clinical Nurse Manager Michelle Reaves about the ASC's operations, including the patient cycle of care and ASC finances.

9. Connecticut Surgery Center Physician Fined, Reprimanded for Dirty Equipment and Sloppy Records.
Joel B. Singer, MD, a plastic surgeon from Westport, Conn., was fined and reprimanded by the state's Medical Examining Board for violating several patient safety standards. In May, officials from the state Department of Health officials found dirty floors and rusty equipment such as tweezers, an IV pole and scissors at Dr. Singer's surgery center. Dr. Singer agreed to pay the board $25,000 and will be placed on probation for two years.

10. Camp Lowell Surgery Center Physician Recognized for Treating Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Lynn Polonski, MD, an eye surgeon at Camp Lowell Surgery Center and Foothills Surgery Center Tuscon, Ariz., was recognized by local newspaperThe Explorer for operating on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords after the shooting that left her in critical condition. Dr. Polonski, who opened Catalina Eye Care in 2009, was one of the physicians called to the operating room after the shooting of Congresswoman Giffords. He and his team decompressed Ms. Giffords' right orbit and reconstructed the roof of her orbit with titanium plates to hold up her frontal lobe.
