Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, SCA's $8.1M outpatient surgery center now open — 3 insights

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Surgical Care Affiliates officially opened Wake Forest Baptist Health Outpatient Surgery — Clemmons (N.C.) Dec. 11.

1. The 12,500-square-foot center was developed as a joint venture between SCA and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Wake Forest is the majority owner.

2. The single-story surgery center cost the health system $8.1 million to develop.

3. Summit Healthcare Group was the project's developer, while Design Strategies was the project's architect.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center CEO Julie Ann Freischlag, MD, said, "This is a great partnership that will help improve the cost and convenience of health care for our patients. Our partnership with Surgical Care Affiliates allows us to streamline the process related to supply chain, staffing and scheduling. This can potentially result in a reduction of out-of-pocket costs for patients, compared to hospital-based surgeries."
