UNC Orthopedics at Goldsboro receives conditional approval for new diagnostic center — 4 insights

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services conditionally approved UNC Orthopedics at Goldsboro’s (N.C.) certificate of need application to open a diagnostic center inside the group’s existing practice.

Here’s what you should know:

1. The diagnostic center is needed to meet patient demand.

2. The group has been working with one X-ray machine since March 2017.

3. NCDHHS determined the X-ray machine has been operating at 93 percent capacity since March 2017.

4. If the group didn’t receive the conditional approval, it’s X-ray utilization rate would’ve skyrocketed to 185.6 percent. Through the conditional CON, the group will be able to bring its second X-ray unit back into operation, decreasing utilization and patient wait times.
