Steadman Hawkins Clinic-Denver is joining Aurora-Colo.-based UCHealth and the University of Colorado School of Medicine to offer sports medicine and orthopedic services to residents throughout the Rocky Mountains.
However, The Steadman Clinic owners and operators may not be on board. A statement from Vail, Colo.-based The Steadman Clinic reads, "This agreement was reached without the knowledge or consent of Steadman Clinic founder Dr. Richard Steadman, Managing Partner Dr. Marc Philippon or CEO Dan Drawbaugh. We will withhold further comment while reviewing our legal options."
Here's what you should know.
1. The staff of Steadman Hawkins Clinic-Denver will combine forces with UCHealth and the University of Colorado.
2. UCHealth is in the process of building a facility in Englewood, Colo. The facility includes an outpatient surgery center in addition to clinic space and physical therapy.
3. For more than 23 years, Steadman Hawkins Clinic-Denver has provided care out of its two locations. Its seven surgeons and additional providers will join the faculty of the CU School of Medicine's orthopedics department and CU Sports Medicine.
4. Liz Concordia CEO of UCHealth lauded the agreement. Robert D'Ambrosia, MD, chair of the orthopedics department at the University of Colorado said the partnership will allow for "us to care for far more patients from throughout the Rocky Mountain region, train additional sports fellows and extend clinical trials."
