Bon Secours is proposing a 15,000 square-foot ASC in Carrollton, Va., which will require approval from the state.

Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare and Newport News, Va.-based Riverside Health System both have plans for ASCs in the county and are currently seeking state approval. The state is expected to approve only one ASC, according to the report.

Sentara has proposed a 7,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center within the new Sentara St. Luke’s, which is slated to open in the Benns Church area in Jan. 2010. Riverside has proposed a 21,000-square-foot ASC at a planned medical complex that has yet to break ground, also located in the Benns Church area.

The Virginia Department of Health is expected to make a decision regarding which system will receive the certificate of need required to move forward with plans for an ASC by the end of March.
