Reno businessman Mr. O’Neal and his sons, Chris and Rory O’Neal, have been allotted 36 licenses to open chiropractic clinics in the Sacramento, San Jose and Nevada areas. They are partnering with John Leonesio, CEO of an Arizona-based franchiser called The Joint.
According to Mr. Leonesio, The Joint advertises spinal manipulation for $49 a month for four visits, and most clinics are open seven days a week. The chain does not take insurance, and chiropractors are compensated on an hourly or salaried basis.
Mr. O’Neal, a former hospital CEO, is branching out into another area of healthcare after witnessing the success of SurgCenter, a chain that includes the Roseville (Calif.) Surgery Center. He said he thinks the chiropractic clinics will fare well because they are affordable and keep longer hours than most conventional practices.
