Study questions the efficacy of CON programs

A recent study conducted by the Mercatus Center of George Mason University in Arlington, Va., has questioned whether or not certificate of need programs actually increase access of care for poor populations and control costs.

The study concludes that CON programs actually limit competition and decrease the availability of healthcare services, without any significant increase in charity care.
