State-by-state breakdown of 2017's 73 new or announced ASCs, outpatient centers

Approximately 73 ASCs or outpatient surgery centers opened across the U.S. in 2017, with New York leading the way with ten facilities.

Here is a state-by-state breakdown of all the new centers that opened or were announced in 2017.

Alabama
A year-long process came to a close for Athens (Ala.)-Limestone Hospital with the groundbreaking of its $25 million surgery center.

Alaska
After breaking ground in April 2015, Fairbanks (Alaska) Memorial Hospital opened its surgery center.

Arizona
Phoenix-based The CORE Institute and Banner Health expanded their partnership to open a new outpatient location: The Orthopedic & Spine Institute on the Banner—University Medical Center Phoenix campus.

California
Nashville, Tenn.-based Surgery Partners opened a surgery center in Beverly Hills, Calif., which will offer ophthalmology services.

Los Angeles-based Shriners for Children Medical Center held a dedication ceremony for its new facility, which features an ASC. The 75,000-square-foot facility will house an ASC in its outpatient care facility.

Colorado
Longmont, Colo.-based Front Range Orthopedics & Spine Center opened a new $12 million surgery center.

Denver-based UCHealth is building a new five-story building in Denver, which includes an ASC.

Connecticut
Constitution Surgery partnered with Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare to open the Constitution Surgery Center East in Waterford, Conn. The new 22,000-square-foot facility replaced a smaller surgeon-owed operation.

Pending regulatory approval, Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Conn., is planning to open a $26 million orthopedic ASC with six operating rooms. The 33,000-square-foot center will be complete in July 2019.

Fairfield, Conn.-based Orthopaedic Specialty Group, P.C. opened a new 50,000-square-foot building in Fairfield which houses Fairfield Surgery Center.

Delaware
Lewes, Del.-based Beebe Healthcare is planning to open a specialty surgery center in Rehoboth, Del. The surgery center will feature a Minimally Invasive Surgical Center of Excellence.

Florida
Cleveland Clinic and Jupiter, Fla.-based Rendina Healthcare Real Estate partnered to construct a $32 million, 72,000-square-foot health center in Coral Springs, Fla. The center will feature a clinical space, a diagnostic imaging center and an ASC.

Physician Partners of America held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 15, 2017, for its Habana Ambulatory Surgery Center in Tampa, Fla.

Florida-based Lee Health received board approval to build its new $140 million outpatient medical campus in Estero, Fla. The campus will house a surgery center and a wellness center.

Vero Orthopaedics & Neurology in Vero Beach, Fla., opened an ASC. The ASC will include treatment for spine, elbow, knee, foot, ankle, hand, shoulder and wrist conditions. The facility will also include sports medicine and interventional pain management services.

SurgCenter Development teamed up with Miami Surgical Suites to open its 13th operational center in Florida.

Alongside local physicians and Davenport-based Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center, Compass Surgical Partners opened Heart of Florida Surgery Center, also in Davenport.

Georgia
Athens (Ga.) Orthopedic Clinic opened a new ASC May 15, 2017, in Loganville, Ga. The surgery center is nearly 10,000 square feet and houses two operating suites and one procedure room.

Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopaedics strengthened its outpatient presence with a new ASC in Fayetteville, Ga..

Atlanta Orthopaedic Institute Surgery Center partnered with Practice Partners in Healthcare, a surgical services provider, to develop and manage an ASC.

Hawaii
Honolulu-based Kaiser Permanente Hawaii opened a 9,444-square-foot ASC at Mapunapuna Medical Office April 18, 2017.

Idaho
Blackfoot, Idaho-based Bingham Memorial Hospital broke ground on a facility with a surgery center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Illinois
New Lenox, Ill.-based Silver Cross Surgery Center opened across the street from Silver Cross Hospital. The 14,000-square-foot center has three operating rooms, 12 preoperative and postoperative beds and a family waiting area.

Champaign, Ill.-based Carle and Christie Clinic physicians broke ground on a new joint venture surgery center in Champaign. The new surgery center is expected to open in early 2019.

Roscoe, Ill.-based NorthPointe Surgery Center opened its doors after more than two years of planning and waiting on regulatory approval. Construction on the $15.27 million ASC began in April 2016.

Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center broke ground on its new outpatient medical building in Oak Brook, Ill. The surgery center will be on the third floor and providers will offer musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and other surgical procedures.

Centralia, Ill.-based St. Mary's Hospital held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its orthopedic surgery center. Craig Beyer, MD, will join the surgery center in an effort to expand medical services in the region.

Iowa
Tri-State Specialists in Sioux City, Iowa, broke ground on the $37 million Riverview Surgical Center. The ASC is expected to cover 50,000 square feet.

Louisiana
Baton Rouge, La.-based Woman's Hospital plans to open the Breast and GYN Cancer Pavilion in spring 2018. The facility will house an ASC in addition to cancer services.

Maryland
Trammell Crow and Meadow Partners broke ground on a new five-story medical pavilion in National Harbor, Md., which will feature an ASC.

Massachusetts
Boston-based SurgiSite North partnered with Bowdoin Construction Corp., for its new 8,000-square-foot surgery center in Chelmford, Mass.

Michigan
Niles, Mich.-based Great Lakes Eye Care opened Great Lakes Surgery Center in Niles.

SurgCenter Development opened its 100th surgery center in Grand Rapids, Mich.: Grand Rapids Surgical Suites.

Mississippi
Lawrence (Miss.) General Hospital opened a $56 million surgery center in April 2017.

Missouri
Osage Beach, Mo.-based Lake Regional Hospital opened the Lake Regional Diagnostic and Surgery Center in Osage Beach as part of the hospital's outpatient services remodel.

SurgCenter Development opened the Advanced Surgical Center of Sunset Hills in St. Louis in January.

Montana
Bozeman (Mont.) Health is opening a new $20 million clinic. Bozeman is building a new ASC within the clinic. The project is a partnership between the health system, United Surgical Partners International and local physicians.

Nebraska
Lincoln, Neb.-based Bryan Medical Center opened an ASC. The ASC features six outpatient surgical suites and will have ample space for expansion.

St. Louis-based architecture firm HOK teamed up with Omaha, Neb.-based RDG Planning & Design on the Lauritzen Outpatient Center. The Lauritzen Outpatient Center costs $71 million and will consolidate Omaha-based Nebraska Medical Center's outpatient services.

Nevada
Minneola, Fla.-based PMRG opened Henderson Medical Plaza, which is a part of Union Village, a 170-acre community in Henderson, Nev. It houses a surgery center and a medical office building.

Reno, Nev.-based Summit Surgery Center at St. Mary's Galena opened May 31, 2017.

New Jersey
Egg Harbor Township, N.J.-based AtlantiCare opened a health complex in Manahawkin, N.J., that will house a surgery center.

New York
WNY Medical Management in Buffalo, N.Y., sought regulatory approval from the New York Public Health and Health Planning Council for a multispecialty ASC in Williamsville, N.Y., but two hospitals are objecting.

Schenectady, N.Y.-based Ellis Hospital is seeking the New York Public Health and Health Planning Council's approval for its $13.64 million Ellis Ambulatory Surgery Center in Clifton Park, N.Y.

The New York State Department of Health approved plans to construct a new joint venture ASC that would be owned by physicians and Greenport, N.Y.-based Eastern Long Island Hospital.

Albany, N.Y.-based OrthoNY earned preliminary approval for its $5.63 million Clifton Park, N.Y.-based ASC. The 12,260-square-foot facility would include four operating rooms and 18 recovery beds. It would be OrthoNY's second ASC.

Allegany Associates, the owners of Johnson City, N.Y.-based Southern Tier Surgery Center, filed plans with the New York Department of Health to build an ASC in Olean, N.Y.

New York City-based Mid-Bronx Endoscopy Center officially began operations in August 2017. Physicians Endoscopy will serve as the center's management and administrative services partner.

Northwell Health opened the third phase of Lenox Health Greenwich Village in New York City, including a $25 million ASC.

Frontier Healthcare Holdings and Liberty Endoscopy Center partnered to open a gastroenterology-facing ASC in New York City, where the two companies are located.

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery opened HSS ASC of Manhattan.

North Carolina
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center announced plans to open a standalone outpatient surgery center in Clemmons, N.C., in December 2017.

Kernersville (N.C.) Endoscopy Center submitted a certificate of need application to shift two endoscopy rooms from its Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Piedmont Endoscopy Center to a new proposed ASC in Kernersville.

North Dakota
Grand Forks, N.D.-based Valley Bone and Joint and North Dakota Eye Clinic are building a new surgery center in Grand Forks.

Ohio
Findlay-based Northwest Ohio Orthopedics & Sports Medicine received approval for a 13,332-square-foot surgery center.

Cincinnati Eye Institute opened a new ASC and performed the first surgery there during the week of Sept. 18 to Sept. 22, 2017.

The new Lancaster (Ohio) Specialty Surgery Center opened its doors. The surgery center mainly offers orthopedic services, including outpatient total joint procedures.

Oregon
Portland-based The Oregon Clinic opened a two-story, 17,000-square-foot ASC in Newberg, Ore. The surgery center specializes in gastroenterology.

Rhode Island
Providence, R.I.-based University Orthopedics is expanding through a new 88,500-square-foot building in East Providence, R.I. The four-story building will include an ASC in addition to exam rooms, treatment rooms as well as MRI and X-ray services.

South Carolina
Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina broke ground on a pediatric ambulatory campus in Charleston. MUSC's new campus will include a pediatric ASC and multispecialty office space.

Tennessee
The State of Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency approved Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health's certificate of need application to expand its services. In a joint venture with United Surgical Partners International, Saint Thomas Health plans to build a 13,000-square-foot surgery center.

Texas
Nobilis opened a new ASC in El Paso, Texas.

Texas Digestive Disease Consultants, based in Southlake, opened a new 11,000-square-foot ASC adjacent to its clinic. Lone Star Endoscopy Center now has three locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

McKinney, Texas-based Methodist Craig Ranch Surgery Center opened in early November 2017. The 27,000-square-foot multispecialty center includes seven operating rooms and is owned by McKinney Methodist Hospital.

Abilene, Texas-based Hendrick Health System opened a new surgery center in Brownwood, Texas, in May 2017. The project cost $5.2 million and includes three operating rooms.

VIP Surgical Center in Conroe, Texas, opened its doors.

Virginia
Richmond, Va.-based Medarva Healthcare opened its second ASC in Richmond.

Washington
The Everett (Wash.) Clinic is opening a new surgery center and urgent care walk-in clinic in Edmonds, Wash. The project will cost $10 million.

Wisconsin
The Tilden (Wis.) Ambulatory Surgery Center announced plans for a new four-OR ASC.

Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care plans to construct a $55.5 million multispecialty ASC and medical office building in Greenfield, Wis.

Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care is building a new $130 million facility, which will house an ASC and an office building, in Kenosha, Wis.
