South Carolina's St. Joseph's/Candler Health System to Drop Opposition to Bluffton ASC

Hilton Head Hospital and St. Joseph's/Candler Health System in Bluffton, S.C., have reached an agreement over St. Joseph's/Candler's opposition to Hilton Head's application or a new outpatient center, according to a Bluffton Today report.

St. Joseph's/Candler has agreed to drop opposition to Hilton Head's application for a certificate of need for Bluffton Outpatient Center. Hilton Head Hospital has also agreed to drop its challenge of DHEC's decision to allow St. Joseph's/Candler to acquire a CT scanner without a certificate of need.

St. Joseph's/Candler said it stands to lose $7 million to $20.6 million if the new outpatient facility is built. The Bluffton Outpatient Center is intended for the relocation and expansion of outpatient services from the hospital.

Mark T. O'Neil, Jr., president and CEO of Hilton Head Regional Healthcare said, "We are extremely pleased to be able to proceed with the development of a new outpatient center in Bluffton. The outpatient center is being built so that healthcare needs of the overall area in Southern Beaufort County can be better served, and we believe this outpatient center in Bluffton will increase accessibility and quality of outpatient services."
