A Lowcountry, S.C. plastic surgery practice has abruptly closed after its parent company, GVO Partners, collapsed into bankruptcy, leaving patients mid-treatment and money paid for unperformed procedures tied up in federal court, WCSC reported.

Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery & Spa’s website acknowledged the closure caused “frustration and confusion.”

The practice’s surgeon, Craig Blum, MD, said in a statement that he is “still reeling from the sudden and unexpected closure” and attributed the collapse in part to the growing role of outside business management in medicine, creating distance between physicians and patients. Dr. Blum said he is working to return to practice locally as soon as possible.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
