Renton, Wash.-based Providence plans to permanently close four occupational medicine and workplace health services clinics in Portland, Ore., effective Nov. 7.
The closure will affect 43 employees, according to an internal message sent to staff and obtained by Becker’s. Ben LeBlanc, MD, chief executive of Providence Medical Group-Oregon, and Jennifer Zelensky, COO of Providence Medical Group-Oregon said the clinics “have lost more than half of our occupational medicine clinicians, leading us to permanently or temporarily close four clinics.”
The four Oregon clinics are:
- Providence Occupational Medicine-Bridgeport Health Center (Tigard)
- Providence Occupational Medicine-Clackamas
- Providence Occupational Medicine-Tanasbourne Health Center (Hillsboro)
- Providence Occupational Medicine-Providence Newberg Medical Center
“Each clinic closure was carefully considered to reduce disruption to patient care,” the message said. “We will be working with patients to ensure a smooth transition to new providers. In most areas, occupational medicine services are located nearby and can provide continuity of care.”
Affected employees are being offered severance and have been encouraged to apply for open positions at Providence.
The news comes after Providence sold four clinics in Vancouver, Wash., to PeaceHealth, which is based in Vancouver, in October 2024. The clinics reopened in January.
