Providence Health & Services will begin construction on ASC in partnership with Surgical Care Affiliates: 5 things to know

Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services will begin construction on a new ASC at its St. Vincent Medical Center campus in April. This will be Providence's fifth outpatient surgery center in the Portland, Ore., area, according to Portland Business Journal.

Here are five things to know:

1. The center is a partnership between 18 local physician-investors, Providence's Oregon Region and Surgical Care Affiliates. Providence owns 41 percent, SCA owns 10 percent and the physicians own 49 percent.

2. The center will be connected to the hospital and located on the first floor of the east medical office building. It will contain four operating rooms.

3. The new facility is expected to treat more than 4,000 patients per year, offering urology, otolaryngology, neurosurgery and gynecology services.

4. According to one of the physician-investors, Dan Janoff, MD, "we've been looking for an outpatient surgical facility for our patients for quite a while, and there has been a recent push from insurance companies to do surgery in a lower cost setting outside the hospital."

5. The physicians already have offices on the St. Vincent Medical Center campus. The procedures that will be performed at the center are currently performed at the hospital's main operating room.
