Proposed Alaska Surgery Center for Kenai Draws Concerns, Questions From Hospital

A certificate of need application for a new ambulatory surgery in Kenai, Alaska, has been filed with the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, according to a Peninsula Clarion report.

Kahtnu Ventures filed for the CON to build an estimated $8 million, 8,365-square-foot ASC by 2013.

The application has caught the attention of Central Peninsula Hospital, based in Soldotna, Alaska. The hospital's CEO said if the ASC was approved, it could significantly impact the hospital's outpatient surgery volume and the profits that come from the procedures.

The CEO also indicated there is little known about the company that filed for the CON, with none of the hospital's physicians acknowledging involvement in or knowledge of Kahtnu Ventures, according to the report.
