Carrie Pallardy -

The Premier Ambulatory Surgery Center project, led by husband and wife physicians Vishal Sharma, MD, and Nisha Sharma, MD, was delayed. But, now New York state officials are reconsidering the project, according to a Buffalo Business First report.

Here are five things to know about the surgery center project.

1. The Premier ASC is planned for Hamburg, N.Y.

2. The project was delayed due to objections from TLC Health Network. The health system protested the surgery center would have a negative impact on its Lake Shore Hospital in Irving, N.Y., according to the report.

3. The Premier ASC would be a 6,925-square-foot facility offering gastroenterology and ophthalmology procedures.

4. Dr. Vishal Sharma is an ophthalmologist. Dr. Nisha Sharma is a family practice physician. Gastroenterologist Jehad Miqdadi, MD, would provide GI/endoscopy procedures at the center.

5. The project is now recommended for approval, based on an evaluation conducted by state health officials. The evaluation concluded the impact on TLC Health would be less than initially projected, according to the report.
