Mishawaka, Ind-based Franciscan Health has added six clinicians — four physicians and two nurse practitioners — from Optum’s now-closed Zionsville, Ind., primary care practice, Current Publishing reported Aug. 26.
The health system said the group will practice at Franciscan Physician Network Family Medicine Clay Township in Carmel, Ind.
The new team includes physicians Akxay Patel, MD; Rina Patel, MD; Justin Rice, MD; and Katelyn Smiley, MD; along with nurse practitioners Sara Brainerd and Angela Yang. The group was most recently based at Optum’s Zionsville clinic, which closed June 26.
Optum’s Zionsville practice was the second in Boone County, Ind., to close this year; the other was in Lebanon, Ind. An Optum spokesperson said earlier this year the company regularly reviews services and staffing “to meet patient needs and changing market dynamics.”
“Our priority is ensuring patients continue receiving care with minimal disruption, and teams are working with our patients to transition care to other nearby Optum clinics or another provider of their choice,” the spokesperson said.
